Week Four Wrap Up

20140126-220443.jpg

This week I went with pink in my Kikki K planner! The tape I used top and bottom isn’t Washi, it’s more like just coloured sticky tape, shiny and glossy. The purple tape is proper washi, and I got both from Warehouse stationary. The post its are by Lah Dee Dah, the stickers and animal stamp by smiggle and the love it stamp by typo.

As you can see I didn’t have a lot going on this week, barely got anything done since my surgery on Monday. They put me in a full above elbow cast on my dominant hand, which essentially means I can do nothing.

*Sigh*… Oh well, bring on next week.

Week Three Wrap up!

20140119-172933.jpg

I can’t believe we’re at the end of the third week of 2014 already! It’s going by far too fast!

Here’s what I ended up with at the end of the week. Obviously I went for a green theme this week, with nature and frog themed stickers (ignoring the pear that I added cos it smells so nice!).

I was a little busier this week as I had job applications to turn in, things to organise before I move out in Feb, and I wanted to get as much done as possible this week because I am having surgery on my arm on Monday and so won’t be particularly productive next week!

Basically everything here I got from Warehouse Stationary save the pear sticker which was from Smiggle.

How was your week? What did you do with your Filo this week? How did you like the green-themed week?

My brand new planner!

A few days ago I mentioned that I caved in and bought a real-life Filofax! I got the email yesterday telling me it had shipped, and thanks to the awesome Kiwi postal service, when I got up this morning there was a beautiful box sitting on my doorstep!

It came with this random airbag cushioning thing.

20140115-172651.jpg

Ten points if you can guess which Filo it is….

20140115-172744.jpg

Here she is! A beautiful personal apex in fuchsia! I know I know, Filofax purists calm down. I’m not saying I don’t like the leather Filos, but they’re just not my style. The pink and green apex’s are a little too extreme, but this purple one really called out to me.

20140115-172844.jpg

These are all in inserts after I gutted it out. There wasn’t as much notepaper as I was expecting, I was hoping to utilise it in my new layout. I’m going to use the A/Z tabs as a note “filing cabinet” type thing, which I saw on PlannerLuv’s youtube channel. Good way to store all those random notes that you need on hand but don’t really fit any where else. I’m also going to use the filofax WO2P as a health diary of sorts.

Has anyone got any tips on covering the dividers? The colours are hideous… but I don’t think I have enough Washi to cover the whole thing…

Here she is all lovely and stuffed. I think I like the apex, its much sleeker than my Kikki-K, although it doesn’t seem to hold as much.

Just on a final note, did any one else only get TWO pieces of Todo paper with their filo? TWO? That just seems silly…

So what do you think of my new filo? Are you for or against the Apex? Any layout or decorating ideas? Share your filo’s with me!

Week Two Wrap-Up

20140112-184500.jpg

Here’s my week two set up.

I tried to make it a little themey, started off with some really pretty butterfly washi tape I got from Spotlight. The big butterfly on the left page I cut from some spare cards I had lying around.

As you can see I’m still on holiday, so not an awful lot going on. I’m still experimenting with my Todos, as you can see the ones on the left are in a slightly different format from the ones on the right. Still not sure. Any thoughts on how you organise your todos would be awesome. I’m trying to very basically implement the GTD system, using the To Do stickies on my dashboard as my ‘inbox’, then moving things onto the right day or appropriate Todo list in the section further back. It’s working okay for now, not sure how it will handle my busier schedule come Feb.

I liked the colours this week but I think it’s a little simple. Any opinions? Advice? I’m still very much an newbie decorator/scrapbooker, so I’d appreciate any thoughts.

Oh and one last thing! I just noticed today that the notepad in the back of my planner is the exact same size as the insert pages! Which essentially means I have a whole bunch of extra paper right there! I just have to punch the holes and I’m away. Very exciting!

A good look at my planner setup – Part 2 – Plus NEWS!

A few days ago I posted the first part of my planner walkthrough. The link can be found on the right.

I left off on the monthly pages. The divider below is the start of the weekly calendars. I absolutely LOVE the dividers in the Kikki-K planners, they are so pretty! They are part of the Dreaming collection that Kikki-K has going at the moment. Lovely pinks and mint colours… Yummy. The fox page marker is the second half of a set that included the bunny.

20140108-153824.jpg

The planner also came with week on two page inserts. They’re very good looking, with lots of empty space for writing and decorating. One of the reasons I didn’t buy a Filofax planner is that the inserts are too cluttered with the extra languages and words. These inserts are lovely and spacious. Simple is best I think as it leaves room to add your own personal touches. I haven’t gotten around to decorating this spread yet, and I wanted to save this week for Sunday.

20140108-154656.jpg

This is my To Do list divider, again it’s just so pretty! I’ve covered the labels with Washi tape, and I think they came out okay.

20140108-155134.jpg

These are a few of my To Do lists I made for my courses next semester. I think they look good! The post its and stickers are from Warehouse Stationary.

20140108-155347.jpg

This section I’m not really sure what to do with yet. At the moment I have it allocated for Uni notes, but I’m really not sure. I guess I just like the divider. I’m sure I’ll find some use for it.

20140108-155728.jpg

This last section is for expenses. I’ve never really kept track of my finances like this, but I am terrible with money so I thought maybe it would do some good. Still not sure… I’m going to give it until the end of Feb and see how it goes. For now it can stay.

20140108-155734.jpg

20140108-155741.jpg
Lastly there is a pocket in the back for a notepad. Not sure how much I will use this, but it will always be handy to have somewhere to jot. Also, I have left a divider back here to protect the inserts and to help everything fit in nicely. I’ve found it stops the last pages bending when I close the planner.

20140108-155747.jpg

To finish off, I have two quick things to share. Firstly, when I started packing this planner with inserts and sticky notes, I was worried that the front would get warped where the strap clicked on, because it had to bend pretty far to be able to close properly. Now I am happy to report that I have bent the planner to my will, and the whole front cover has bent smoothly to accommodate everything I have stuffed in there. Much less damaging I think.

20140108-160812.jpg

Finally, my exciting news! I have been tempted over and over again to buy a ‘real’ filofax planner. They look so pretty and much better quality materials. One gripe I have with my Kikki-K planner is that although the canvas material is pretty and quite sturdy, it is already getting grubby after only a few weeks, spending most of it’s time sitting on my desk. So yesterday I caved, and ordered a Filofax brand planner online (sharp cookies may have noticed on my expenses page). It’s coming from the UK because I couldn’t get the colour I wanted in stores here, so it’ll be here in a few weeks. I’m going to keep you in suspense as to which one I ordered until then, although I will say it is personal size. I don’t think I could deal with any other size.

On that note, I will say goodbye. Let me know what you think of my planner set up, if you have any comments or suggestions I would love to hear them!

Week One Wrap Up

Seeing as it’s Sunday (in New Zealand at least), and the end of the first week in my planner, I thought I would show off my layout for this week. Bear in mind this was my first go at decorating and designing, and so the results are a little all over the place. I was really playing around with all the things I had bought rather than coming up with a coherent theme. I promise next week is much prettier.

20140105-130431.jpg

The green page marker on the left is the other half of the set I bought from Kikki-k, I’ll show it off a little more in part two of the planner walkthrough. I hadn’t really discovered the joys of washi tape when I did this spread, and I think the lack of colour shows. The LOVE IT stamp is from Typo, and the popsicle sticker and pawprint stamp are from Smiggle. The stickers are actually awesome, they smell like lollies and apples, yum!. The Hello Beautiful post it came in a Lah de dah (I think thats how you spell it!) set I got from Warehouse Stationary.

So that’s week number one, I swear there are better layouts to come!

A good look at my 2014 planner setup – Part 1

Over the past few weeks I’ve become more than a little addicted to looking at other peoples Filofaxes and planners on the internet. People are so creative with their planning and organising their lives it has inspired me to do the same. At the same time I thought I would share my journey with the World Wide Web!

Today I’m going to show you guys through my Kikki-k planner and the way I’ve set it out. It’s absolutely beautiful, I think I’m a little bit in love. Now bear in mind that the way I have my planner set up will not be perfect for everyone. The different sections and dividers really depend on what you need on hand most often.

Also, although I have really tried to make my planner pretty, it’s no use to me at all if it isn’t functional. So even though I’ve decorated it in a bunch of different ways, I’ve had to make sure that I can still use it to plan and organise my life.

20140104-181338.jpg

This is what I see when I first open my planner. On the left hand side there is a large secretarial pocket where I keep a few sheets of stickers (I’ll show these off in a later post). The three other pockets have a butterfly post-it pad in blue, a small “Today” post it pad, and some smaller decorative post its. On the right is my dashboard, or my front page. I made it out of an old card, sticking the front and back together and then cutting it to size. Then I stuck the post it pads onto it and added 2014 along the top. I think it looks pretty good. The pen loop on the right hand side has a random blue ballpoint pen that I liked because it’s chunky and easy to hold.

20140104-180750.jpg

On the back of my dashboard I have my colour-coding key that I use in my calendars. As you can see I have a few different aspects of my life that need organising and so colour coding them makes it easy for me to see what’s going on. The dividers came with the Kikki-k planner, I just decorated them with some washi tape to cover the labels. This means I can rearrange things without having to re-label the dividers. The little bunny page marker on the divider came in a two pack from Kikki-k.

20140104-181131.jpg

The month on two page (MTP) inserts were included with the planner and start of the calendar section. On these pages I’m just putting major dates like birthdays, semester dates, and key events. Appointments and smaller events will probably just stay on the weekly calendars later on. The bookmark helps get to the relevant month quickly. Because I’m on holiday at the moment, from work and uni, I don’t have a lot going on this month. I tried to co-ordinate the stars with the purple and yellow washi tape, but not sure how good of a job I did.

I was going to go through my entire planner in this post, but this post is getting longer and longer and I’m barely halfway done. That means there will be a part two!

Let me know any comments or feedback on my planner and the post, and any questions you might have.
